WHOIS is a query protocol that returns registration information for a domain name — including the registrar, registration and expiry dates, name servers, and domain status codes. It helps you verify domain ownership, check when a domain expires, or investigate who registered a particular domain.
RDAP (Registration Data Access Protocol) is the modern successor to WHOIS. It returns structured JSON data instead of plain text, supports internationalized domain names, and provides more consistent output across registrars. This tool uses RDAP via rdap.org for reliable, machine-readable results.
Many registrars now hide personal contact information (name, email, phone) due to GDPR and privacy laws. Registrant details are often replaced with proxy or privacy service information. Domain creation and expiry dates, registrar name, and name servers are usually still visible.
